Adopt an Intern nominated for “SME of the Year”

We are excited to be shortlisted as finalist for SME of the year, by Business in the Community Scotland’s annual Awards celebrating responsible business. 

The Awards recognise the demonstrable impact of Scottish companies in creating a fairer society and promoting responsible business objectives, and will culminate in a celebration event hosted by comedian Fred MacAulay on June 28 at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh.




Joy receives “Women of Inspiration” Award

On International Women’s Day, February 8th, Adopt an Intern CEO Joy Lewis who became one of 10 women across Scotland to be recognised as a “Woman of Inspiration” in the Association of Scottish Businesswomen’s 2016 Honours.

The Honours, announced in February, give recognition to women who are inspirational role models and to celebrate all that they do for others in the business world in Scotland.




Expansion into London



This year Adopt an Intern are making strides towards putting paid to unpaid internships in the whole of the UK, not just Scotland. 

We have secured our first graduate placements in London, Manchester and Birmingham. 

We have also welcomed the wonderful Joanna Bowen as our London Ambassador to help us reach our goal.





Undergraduate Programme for Scottish Enterprise

March saw the launch of the Scottish Enterprise Undergraduate Programme for the second year running. 

It is a great way for current university students to gain valuable work experience, and get paid at the same time.

Students will gain an insight and contribute to the work of Scottish Enterprise and may lead to future opportunities, such as being invited to join the SE graduate programme in 2016.





Gavin Mitchell joins our board

Gavin is the Managing Director at BCF Technology Ltd. and joined the Adopt an Intern Board in January 2016.

During his 14-year career in BCF, he and his team have maintained consistent year on year growth and created a fun and rewarding place to work.

Gavin enjoys the daily challenge of change and improvement and is currently focused on the worldwide development of the business and product portfolio and the strategic leadership of BCF.  He is also a founding member and trustee of Vet Charity Challenge Foundation, a foundation to create good and raise sponsorship for charities by pulling together the UK Veterinary Industry.   



Graduate Profile: Laura Griffin

Laura’s role as a marketing and communications intern involved being versatile within a range of responsibilities and being able to work independently.

She managed a range of design projects for FEAST, in particular mainly branding work for digital and print.

Graduate profile: Eilidh Rose McEwan

Eilidh’s Internship with the Deaf Sector Partnership involved research such as mapping Deaf Services by Local Authority Area, social media development on Twitter and building a website for the Deaf Sector Partnership.

Being deaf herself, Eilidh is particularly passionate about ensuring the Deaf community who use British Sign Language in Scotland achieve greater linguistic access to services such as education, healthcare and the justice system
