Blacksmiths is a boutique cyber technology start-up specialising in advice, development and implementation of cyber security and intelligence capability for governments and businesses.
We provide an end-to-end service blending the best emerging technology with our own research and development. In particular we specialise in researching and building bespoke cutting-edge platforms and systems to help our clients protect and understand their operations, assets and staff. We are small, focused and highly discreet but can leverage large scale projects through partners who share our ethos. Our team are former experts from the British government's cyber research and development programme and bring with them a unique understanding of the architecture needed for cyber defence, satellite systems, lawful monitoring and secure communications.
We are looking for imaginative graduates who can use their knowledge of one or more computer science disciplines to develop solutions and innovate new capability against a large technology stack. The successful candidate would be working against one or more of the following areas depending on their experience:
• Network Programming & Forensics
• Informatics, Data Science & Machine Learning
• Web Development and Visualisation
We are looking for someone keen to learn and innovate; a self-starter who would use this opportunity to progress themselves while having an impact on the work of the team. For candidates to have a future in the company, they will need the ability to achieve a degree of government vetting in the future.
Good knowledge of all of these areas is essential, with a deeper knowledge of one or two areas:
• Databases: NoSQL, SQL technologies and architectures
• Networking: Good understanding of OSI L1-L4 protocols
• Machine Learning: Understanding of approaches, applications and software
• Computer Architecture: Good understanding from hardware to operating systems
• Computer Security: Forensics, Intrusion Detection, Intrusion Analysis
• Informatics: Including Data Science and Analysis, Machine Learning
Please note that the role is mostly home working with remote collaboration - team based in South West. Company employees work remotely but with daily, virtual interaction. The candidate may be expected to travel to South West England for occasional team meetings.
