About the Company
Tayberry Gallery is a lovely wee shop that sells unique gifts, practical items and quality handmade products for yourself and your home. Everything in the gallery is designed and made in Britain. We show various ever-changing collections of British made art and design. Including jewellery, ceramics, wood, textiles, illustrations, paintings, glass, sculpture, prints, cards and more. Tayberry is run by jeweller Sarah Spalding and wood worker Louise Forbes who both graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2009. They have a passion for bringing well designed, handmade objects to the masses and educating people in the wonders of buying unique items.
Tayberry Gallery are looking for an enthusiastic Gallery Assistant. The duties of the successful applicant will include:
• Dealing with the public
• Promoting Tayberry through our social media channels
• Administration tasks
• General gallery up-keep
• Assisting in the day-to-day responsibilities of the business, eg, opening up/closing the premises when necessary.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate in art or design, however graduates from other fields will also be considered. You should be very interested in handmade produces and enthusiastic for supporting British made art and design. Being outgoing and friendly with a positive attitude is also essential. The candidates should also be able to use their initiative in a retail situation.
As you will regularly be the sole member of staff in the gallery you should be confident and be able to demonstrate initiative.
You should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be organised with a keen eye for detail.
Previous retail experience is desired but not essential. The ability to work full days (9:30-5:30) including Saturdays is required as this is a retail business operating every day.
