Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) is an independent company, established by the Scottish Government in 2008, with a responsibility for delivering value for money across all public sector infrastructure investment.
£18,000 salary, 37.5 hours per week for 12 months

SFT are looking for an Infrastructure Programme Finance Assistant. The purpose of this role is to manage and report on an Excel based database of c.40 large projects currently in development, in construction or now open to deliver public services, collectively forming a £3.5 billion investment programme (known as the “NPD programme”). The projects include new schools, colleges, hospitals and other facilities.
You will work in collaboration with colleagues and other public bodies to collate and report management information to Scottish Government and to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. In this role you will be supporting a Programme Director, and it will include training support in financial modelling skills and an introduction into public funding and private financing of major infrastructure projects across Scotland.
Collating data from Project Directors working in a range of public bodies on the costs and delivery dates for their large construction projects;
- Interrogating data for consistency, running this through an Excel database and tracking changes from previous model runs to provide timely information on movements across the programme;
- Tracking costs of finance and inflation rate changes from published indices to assess their impact on the long term costs of projects to the government, specifically for the Scottish Government annual Draft Budget;
- Drafting regular reports on model outputs for the SFT Board and other governance reporting for the programme of projects;
- Collating and presenting/reporting data on the wider community benefits that the projects generate such as number of apprenticeships and work packages offered to local communities and SMEs;
- Collaborating with the programme leads in SFT to build good working relationships and understanding of the project funding and procurement structures to facilitate data gathering; and
- Ad hoc support to other work streams within SFT such as financial modelling support to the Low Carbon team.
The ideal candidate will have a background in Accountancy/Finance or Business at degree level. You will be able to demonstrate experience of using Excel spreadsheets. Applicants who can demonstrate previous experience in data analysis and debt finance will be well-regarded. You will be an independent thinker and an ambitious individual who looks for opportunities and believes that what they do matters. With an interest in finance and the public sector, you will be able to work as part of a team and will collaborate with colleagues to support an important infrastructure investment programme in Scotland.
