"I'm absolutely clear that organisations need to draw on the broadest talent pool possible to achieve success.
The recent recession caused many organisations to reduce their staffing numbers and cut back on recruitment. This hit young people badly. As they are the future of our workforce it is important that we continue to invest in them but many organisations find the recruitment of young people a particular challenge. Equally, young graduates struggle to get a 'foot on the ladder'.
Adopt an Intern helps the organisations by making the recruitment process easier, sifting candidates and presenting a short list, matched to requirements. It helps the young people by providing accessible, quality jobs and helping them navigate the job application process.
I first came across Adopt an Intern in late 2013. Coincidentally they helped my elder daughter get an internship at the Scottish Government at the same time as they provided a top quality candidate for a maternity cover at Investors in People Scotland (of which I'm Chairman).
Two of my other businesses have used them with great success (I currently get PA support at Morton Fraser from an intern) and Edinburgh Airport secured an intern to join their in-house team this summer.
It's such a simple intervention, but in each case I've seen, one that delivers a real value to the young person and to the organisation they join. I encourage all employers and young people to consider it."
