Reporting to the Head of Policy Advice and Parliamentary Affairs, the main function of your role is to support the RSE’s Policy Advice activities. Your key tasks will include:
- To coordinate and produce responses to Government and Parliamentary consultations, and policy papers initiated by the RSE, and to support the delivery of any follow up activities. This will include working on policy papers relating to post-Referendum issues. A minimum of six advice or briefing papers to be completed in 2015/16. Follow up activities will include communicating and engaging with governments and parliamentarians.
- For evaluation purposes, to coordinate records of policy advice impact and activities, including tracking on-going issues.
- To provide secretariat services for the RSE Business Innovation Forum and to support the delivery of its activities along with the Head of Policy Advice & Parliamentary Affairs.
- To support the senior Policy Officer responsible for the Education Committee as required, in particular provide organisational and report writing services to the joint seminars with the David Hume Institute.
- To undertake desk based research and collation of evidence and advice material.
- To provide general administrative support for the team.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level with a background in politics, policy and/or government. You will have an understanding of the working of the Scottish Parliament, Government and the Civil Service. A good understanding of the working of the EU and UK Parliament, Government and Civil Service would be highly beneficial. You should have experience in and the ability to produce clear and concise policy advice type papers and report, alongside experience in working with committees.
You should be confident working on your own initiative and as part of a small team. You will have a strong attention to detail and be highly organised. The successful candidate will be a confident user of the web and possess the ability to source information quickly and accurately. You will be IT literate with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Powerpoint with a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel. An understanding of content management for websites and Integra Databases is desirable. Event organisation skills and the ability to work across different topics and areas would be beneficial.
