About the Company
Oxton Pottery was opened to the public two years ago as a retail venue: a working pottery. As well as the making and selling of earthenware tableware and gifts, the business delivers regular pottery classes from the Pottery. The ultimate business aim is to create a visitor attraction, a bird gardens with the Pottery at the heart of it.
Oxton Pottery are looking to take on a Pottery Assistant to help with the making, to allow capacity for the business to work on expanding the Pottery as a visitor attraction.
In this post the focus will be on production of ceramics, including, mould-making, blunging clay, preparation of casting bench, casting, removing casts from moulds, fettling and sponging the finished pieces in preparation for their bisc firing.
The Pottery is a micro business and therefore there are likely to be other tasks that arise for you to get involved in where appropriate.
The ideal candidate should have a degree in ceramics, and an understanding of the pottery process in the context of a business environment.
You should be well organised, able to prioritise and take initiative, as well as being able to work to deadlines. The ability to cooperate with others, communicating your ideas clearly and having a willingness to take direction is essential.
Oxton Pottery is situated in a rural location. Please ensure that you outline in your application how you would intend to deal with the geographical location in planning to attend for interview or for work if you were offered the post.
