Project and Marketing Management Intern with East Renfrewshire Business Improvement Districts

Location: Based in Barrhead Foundry (travel to locations throughout East Renfrewshire will be necessary)* 
£8.75 per hour 
Full-time 35 hours per week for 6 months, with possible extension for the right candidate 
Ideal start: 1 March 2018

About the Organisation

This internship will work closely with two highly ambitious East Renfrewshire Business Improvement Districts (BIDs): All About Barrhead and I Love Clarkston. Comprising of almost 300 businesses together, both BIDs represent a strong collective voice in the area, supporting trade and commerce, as well as contributing to local community life by organising large events and co-ordinating visual improvements made to the area.

A BID is about businesses working together and investing collectively in local improvements, in addition to those delivered by the statutory authorities, which will be of benefit to the businesses involved whilst contributing to the wider aspirations of the local residential community and growing the local economy.

The Role 

The intern will get hands-on project management experience by developing, delivering and marketing public events and other local marketing initiatives. The successful candidate must work to ensure that all local stakeholders, such as independent and national businesses, schools, home workers, art clubs, and other community groups are involved and engaged with events. This internship provides an opportunity to liaise on a daily basis between the private, public and third sectors. 
 
The main tasks and responsibilities of the post are as follows: 

•Events development, delivery, and marketing – targeting carefully selected market segments (as opposed to targeting the whole local community) and liaising with the business community and other stakeholders 
•Contribution to brand promotion and facilitation of community engagement 
•Delivery and marketing of public events in two BID areas 
•Marketing and PR for two BIDs. This will include managing social media profiles and a business led, community orientated website 
•Marketing tailored to suit strategic ambitions of the BID (promotion of customer loyalty and encouraging social engagement to generate footfall) and to promote advantages of having a BID in a challenging environment where both private and public stakeholders are heavily involved 
•Assisting with funding applications for BID projects 
•Writing BIDs newsletters and correspondence with BID members 
•Attending BID Management Committees meetings and taking minutes  
•Administrative tasks: filing, dispatching correspondence, telephone calls, help with databases maintenance, minute taking 
•Providing assistance with any other BID issues as necessary 
 
* Although the main office base is at Barrhead Foundry, the successful applicant will have the flexibility to arrange to carry out some work from home with visits to the office for meetings.  


Requirements 

The ideal intern will be educated to degree level, preferably with a background/experience in Public Policy, Business Management, Social Media, Marketing, Events, or a subject relating to public sector management or quality and performance management. If you can, however, successfully demonstrate that you have the skills to do the job, this will be more important than your academic background. 

Resilience, self-motivation, and the ability to organise your own workload are essential.  

You should also be able to demonstrate the following skills and abilities: 

•Confidence 
•Ability to undertake research, summarise findings, and prepare written briefing material  
•Excellent data analysis and interpretation skills 
•Ability to understand and interrogate data sets   
•Computer literacy with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
•Theoretical understanding of performance management and measurement methods 
•Ability to research good practice and make recommendations for improvement 
•Good interpersonal skills with ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team 
•Good organisational skills 
•A full drivers’ licence and access to your own car would be desirable
