The Company

BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS (BIDs) enable businesses within a designated area to work together to improve their performance. They are supported by National and Local government but run by the businesses themselves through a Board and management team.

The Greater Grassmarket Business Improvement District is a five-year project, which started in February 2013, where all businesses within the defined area come together to invest collectively to benefit business and local economy growth through local improvements, activities and business support in addition to those delivered by City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Government.

Greater Grassmarket's Projects are divided into four sections, detailed within the Greater Grassmarket Business Plan:
• Marketing, Events and Promotion
• Clean, Green and Safe
• Accessibility
• Facilitate

The Role

The main tasks of the Intern will be to research and develop the systems and procedures which will be used to consult, communicate and engage with the BID membership, increasing their involvement and satisfaction with the BID's activities.

Membership Management and Development
• Routine communications with renewing members and new members, ensuring members details processed and kept up to date in systems
• Development and fulfilment of a marketing campaign to encourage new members
• Following up all general enquiries, and researching leads through social media activity, newspapers, other media and networking events
• Developing and improving the membership benefits offering
• Conducting annual satisfaction survey

Communications
• Updating the website
• Proactive and reactive social media communications
• Basic analysis of web and social media activity
• Update contact management system
 

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a background in Business, Marketing, Computer Science or a similar degree discipline. You should be technically IT proficient, with the ability to learn new systems and ways of working. You should be confortable using various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Storify). Excellent communication (written and verbal), organisation and interpersonal skills will be required for this role. The candidate should be adaptable, creative and tenacious. The ability to work both as part of a team and also to work on your own initiative is essential.
