About the Company
Adopt an Intern (AAI) is a not-for-profit company specialising in the facilitation of paid internships for unemployed and underemployed graduates. We work with employers from all sectors across the UK, and have placed nearly 1500 graduates into internship opportunities in everything from Government to Glass Blowing.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age. We also welcome applications from graduates of any degree background and experience.
We have two groups of customers: employers and applicants. This dual-focus requires a careful balance in the use of our resources, which we achieve by listening closely to the needs of those customers and responding in an agile and flexible manner. We are currently at an important point in the company’s lifecycle where we need to leverage our success to date and build a sustainable platform for growth.
Are you an all-rounder? Up for a challenge within a small, growing, social organisation?
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and creative graduate or returner to apply their skills in a multi-dimensional role, with key deliverables which will underpin the organisation’s development strategy. For some organisations, business development is the sole domain of the sales team, but at AAI all staff have a serious role in developing our business and engaging our two groups of customers.
Reporting to the CEO, you will get to know what we do and how we do it by being involved in the whole range of our activities, growing in confidence as you work through a range of tasks that will include the following:
• Supporting the CEO through diary management, liaison with customers and daily use of our CRM systems (online and off) to ensure a high level of service and engagement is maintained throughout all our activities
• Promotion of our employers' opportunities through various channels
• Assisting with the delivery of vital operational processes, general business admin, and participating in team, client and board meetings (with regular minute-taking).
• Preparation of reports for board members and other stakeholders
• Handling inbound enquiries
• Attending business events and acting as an Ambassador for AAI
• Supporting the sales process by assisting in the creation of leads, proposals and presentations
• Identifying opportunities for business growth
• Project management, including project budget management
This is a great opportunity to join a small yet dynamic team where ideas for improvement are always welcome, and in which your skills and abilities will be put to good use. AAI are a very hands-on team in which each member is encouraged to contribute and make their mark. We like curiosity about how things work and might work better, and we are proud to be an organisation that contributes to economic and personal growth wherever we work. Working with AAI you will be helped to develop new skills and knowledge vital to both your professional development and the future of the company.
There is real potential for the right person to grow into further roles as their employment with AAI progresses. We believe that this is the best way to grow talent and to demonstrate to other businesses we work with, that they can successfully do this too. Increased responsibilities would be rewarded appropriately.
*This role is a part-time one of 20 hours per week, and what would work best for the role is that the hours are worked over 5 days. However, we are open to some flexibility around this.
You may apply whatever your degree background as long as you can prove you have the skills to do the job. You’ll be analysing current factors and contributing ideas to our strategy for business growth.
You should be able to demonstrate an interest in how advances in tech can support better business practices and processes. Experience in working within these areas to deliver customer engagement would be particularly advantageous.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organised, have a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail. We’re looking for a confident written and verbal communicator. You'll enjoy speaking to people in person and on the phone, and you will be a good listener, able to gather information from others to inform and underpin your arguments. You'll be familiar with Microsoft office platforms and software.
Candidates must have the ability to manage their own workload and respond quickly to a range of differing demands. You must be happy to work from home on your own, as well as with other members of the team at regular face-to-face meet-ups. You will need access to your own computer and mobile phone. Some flexibility around working hours would be advantageous, as occasional shifts in working patterns may be advantageous to us, and you if needed.
Some flexibility around working hours would be advantageous, as occasional shifts in working patterns may benefit both parties.
Above all else, candidates should have a firm belief in the vision and values of AAI. The company strives for inclusion, diversity and establishing equality of opportunity through transparent business methods. AAI has an entrepreneurial take on the world, underpinned by a strong social conscious.
If all of this is music to your ears, we want to hear from you!
Closing date for applications is 8 July 2019, 12 noon.
Interviews will take place on Friday 12 July 2019 in Edinburgh.
Please submit a CV and Cover Letter through the Adopt An Intern online application form on our website. All applications must be submitted by 12 noon on the closing date. State A) your availability and B) relevant experience, demonstrating how your skills match the specific requirements of the job description.
We do NOT accept e-mail applications unless otherwise stated.
Successful candidates must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK.
