Commercial and Editorial Assistant with Daily Business


Location: Edinburgh - Home based*

£7.50 per hour plus expenses
Part-time, 20 hours minimum per week**, for 3 months initially
Start date: immediate

About the Company
Daily Business is designed as the go-to News Website for the modern, mobile generation of readers who want their news and opinion delivered in a convenient and immediate format. It provides news and opinion for those interested in business, politics, the arts and sport, 7 days a week and is available via PC, laptop and mobile devices.

The Role
Daily Business is looking for a keen and enthusiastic Commercial and Editorial Assistant to join its team. This role requires an all-rounder who can support Daily Business to drive revenue.  As a successful candidate your main tasks will include:

• Generating advertising and marketing leads, including sponsorship packages for an online business-led news service
• Helping to generate marketing initiatives
• Assisting with events and other external activities
• Contributing advertorial copy (paid editorial) with the option to contribute articles to the newsdesk

You will work closely with the Business Development Manager, as well as the company owner (and main journalist behind Daily Business).

* This role will be home-based with regular meetings, at least once a week. You will need to have access to the internet, your own laptop and phone.

*This role is on a self-employed basis. You will be invoicing “Daily Business” as a freelance consultant. This is a very simple, uncomplicated process. You will also be advised to register as self-employed with HMRC if you have not already registered. Students in Scotland on a Tier 4 Visa are not permitted to be self-employed and should therefore not apply for this role.

** Please note that you will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with the prospect of more if merited. Expenses will be paid for travel and calls directly connected with the business.

The position would suit someone from a marketing background who is able to contribute to the commercial and editorial demands of a modern online news service. The ideal candidate should be confident and able to build relationships with key clients.

As the role is mainly home-based you will also need to be driven and self-motivated, able to prioritise and to take the initiative.
