About the Company
Vistalworks is the new data technology startup from three well-known, highly experienced entrepreneurs. CEO Vicky Brock, was named Scotland’s Most Inspiring Business Person at the Entrepreneurial Scotland Awards, won Innovator of the Year at the Everywoman in Technology Awards and is a Women’s Enterprise Scotland Ambassador. COO Alan Murray has built multiple multi-million-pound businesses by harnessing the power of diverse datasets and translating those into actionable information for end users. Chief Product Officer, Stephen Budd, is responsible for creating and delivering innovative and award-winning data-driven products to market, ranging from retail analytics to medtech and cybersecurity.
The co-founders have come together to solve a huge social problem - the harm caused to citizens, communities, services and businesses by fake and illicitly traded goods. We aim to reduce the $1.13 trillion annual global cost of counterfeit goods and illicit trade by helping online shoppers understand if they are at risk of harm before they buy.
We do this with a data technology tool that warns consumers when they are being exposed to harm from fake or illicit goods, whenever and wherever they shop online, and enables them to make the “right” purchase choice if they wish to. The underpinning data models are always learning, including from the stories people share with us through our survey, and they get smarter with every new check that is made. This technology will be free to consumers, and paid for by those enterprises and bodies most impacted by illicit trade - governments, public bodies, financial services and ecommerce platforms.
We’re currently working with public sector clients in Scotland and the UK, but our primary mission is to make consumer’s shopping experiences safer and reduce their risk of harm from dangerous goods and their exposure to organised crime.
You’ll be joining the Vistalworks team as employee number 5 (including the three co-founders, who have been working on the business full time for the last 6 months). You’ll be coming in to the company right at the beginning of their process of commercialising their innovation and delivering on major new contract wins. You’ll be reporting to and working with very experienced founders who’ve lead teams and businesses before. This means you can benefit from the upsides of startup life - such as a fast pace of work, lots of challenges and problem solving and plenty of opportunities to make a direct impact - but you’ll also be supported in your personal development in a professional environment that most early startups lack.
The role includes the following tasks:
• Follow a data analysis process (in place) and extract insight and recommendations from that process
• Handle, prepare and validate raw data
• Communicate insights, challenges and recommendations to colleagues, management and customers
• Contribute suggestions for new potential data sources and categories
• Execute on the data strategies and analysis processes already developed by the leadership, and make recommendations as appropriate so as to improve the reach, efficiency and effectiveness of the analysis process and the data analytics product
Vistalworks has an active personal development and mentoring programme, with one working day each month set aside for working with your mentor or on your tailored personal learning plan. The team will provide additional support should you choose to acquire new skills related to our core technologies, for example by learning Python.
Applicants must be able to work in the UK. Due to there being an aspect of direct supervision involved, the person must be available to be based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh where the founders are located.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated and enthusiastic graduate of a subject requiring strong analytical skills, for instance, Psychology. You’ll be a forward-thinking individual with a willingness to learn and help the team grow.

This is an entry level role and will suit a career changer or a recent graduate.
