Digital Communications Assistant with Voluntary Health Scotland

£8.25 per hour
Part-time, 21 hours per week for 6 months
January 2016 start


Voluntary Health Scotland (VHS) is the national network and intermediary for voluntary health organisations in Scotland.  We work to promote the role of voluntary health organisations, and we support our members to understand and influence Scottish policy agendas and health outcomes. We run seminars, learning exchanges, events and projects; gather and share information through publications, website and social media; and carry out a wide range of policy work. We collaborate extensively with a wide range of external stakeholders, including the Scottish Government, NHS and third sector organisations.

We are a registered Scottish charity and a company limited by guarantee, led by our Board of Trustees. We have a small team of five permanent staff. 

We now wish to add an enthusiastic and motivated graduate to join the team as a Digital Communications Assistant, to assist VHS to develop, carry out and analyse its communications with a wide range of audiences. This post offers the opportunity to put technical knowledge into practice in a business setting and to gain experience of working in a small, very busy team where collaboration, resourcefulness, flexibility, multi-tasking, skill-sharing and skill-building is crucial.

Reporting to the CEO, the key results areas for this post are:

•To carry out digital communications and marketing via VHS website, Twitter, Linkedin and email.
•To update data on Salesforce CRM system and deliver email campaigns.
•To contribute to problem solving and organisational learning and development to help ensure VHS uses digital communications •and Salesforce effectively.
•To carry out statistical analysis and reporting in relation to website, social media, CRM and other communications
•To support and attend external engagement events. Be a supportive and flexible team player. Carry out other tasks and duties as required.



Our ideal candidate will have a background in marketing, communications, business studies, journalism or related field. You should be able to demonstrate:

•Technical knowledge and competency in using digital and social media platforms for business purposes
•Previous experience of web content management, email marketing, brand communication, digital community development, •customer service and audience development
•Highly motivated, organised and conscientious, with strong attention to detail and ability to time manage and prioritise effectively
•Able to research, analyse and report on data. Able to communicate technical ideas to non-technical people
•Flexible attitude, can-do approach, a collaborative and supportive team member, and comfortable with communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.
