About the Company

Stirling Council's area lies at the very heart of Scotland. It covers 220,000 hectares from Tyndrum and Crianlarich in the southern highlands to the villages of Killearn and Strathblane in the south-west and the former mining villages of Plean, Fallin and Cowie in the east. The 83,000 population splits 50:50 urban to rural, with the urban population centring around Stirling, Dunblane and Bridge of Allan.

The council holds a variety of information and needs to follow the relevant legislation to ensure that information is protected and used responsibly. The day-to-day delivery of this duty is overseen by the Records & Information Compliance Team.

 

The Role

Stirling Council is looking to recruit a graduate as Information Management Intern to join their Records & Information Compliance Team to undertake case management of information requests received by the Council (including requests made under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and Data Protection legislation) and to assist with information management projects.

As part of this busy team, your main tasks will be:
• To undertake case management of Subject Access Requests under the Data Protection legislation - liaising with Council services, collating information in response to a request, preparing records for disclosure (including the scanning and redaction of records), and drafting responses
• To collate information for FOI requests involving more than one council service – collating information, redacting, checking and drafting responses
• To prepare schedules of documentation for FOI Reviews
• To assist with information management projects designed to support the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be educated to a degree level. An understanding of Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation is essential, as is a high standard of attention to detail and the discretion to be able to handle confidential information professionally. Understanding the importance of excellent customer will be necessary.

You should be able to demonstrate the following:

• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word).
• The ability to work to a high standard of attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to take the initiative, prioritise your own work and meet strict deadlines.
• An interest in, or knowledge of local government services.
• An understanding of current data protection issues as they affect individuals and organisations.
• A basic understanding of project management.
