The Role

We have an exciting internship opportunity for a creative and enthusiastic individual with strong communication skills to join our team. It will provide an opportunity for you to play a key role in supporting and developing our Learning for Sustainability activity across all areas of our charity. You will engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, supporting our Young Reporters Scotland and Upstream Battle campaigns, create quality content for our website and social media channels, and be involved in collating and sharing information about our work.

Additionally, you will also support participating schools to engage with the Eco-Schools Scotland programme and where appropriate wider Keep Scotland Beautiful projects.

Reporting to the Education and Learning Manager the main areas and objectives of the role include: -

1. To contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the Young Reporters initiative and competition.
2. To assist with the creative development and dissemination of audience specific materials to support engagement with Young Reporters Scotland by young people and educators in schools, Further and Higher Education Institutions and Community Groups across Scotland.
3. To assist with the development and implementation Young Reporters Scotland workshops in target areas as identifies in conjunction with the Education & Learning Manager.
4. In conjunction with the Education Support Officer (Communications and Policy) develop web-based, digital resources including webpages to support implementation of Young Reporters Scotland through the use of websites, social media and other media channels as appropriate.
5. To support the development, promotion and implementation of the Upstream Battle Education initiative as required.
6. In conjunction with the Education Support Officer (Communications and Policy), promote and support Young Reporters Scotland and Upstream Battle participating schools to actively engage with the Eco-Schools Scotland programme, other Education & Learning team projects and where appropriate wider Keep Scotland Beautiful projects.
7. To support the Education & Learning Manager on an ongoing basis to monitor, evaluate and report on the progress of projects.
8. To contribute effectively to the Education & learning team and the wider work of KSB through participation in discussion and meetings to assist in the achievement of KSB objectives
9. To familiarise yourself with and adhere to all internal policies and procedures.
10. To ensure compliance with the company’s Health and Safety policy.
11. To observe the company’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
12. To undertake such work as may be determined from time to time up to or on a level commensurate with the main responsibilities of the post.


Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a graduate with a background/interest in the environment and/or behaviour change and experience in supporting environmental initiatives. You will possess a high level of communication skills both in writing and verbally and have an understanding of the environmental sector and the role of environmental organisations across Scotland. You will be computer literate and have experience using Microsoft Office 365 applications.
Experience of creating engaging content for different audiences and communications channels and an interest in using social media platforms is essential.
A background in sustainability and/or campaigning is highly desirable, but not essential. Experience of previously being involved in environmental campaigns and projects would be an advantage.
