£15,714 per annum (pro-rata) 
Part-time (Mon-Fri, 30 hours a week), for 6 months

The Company

Strathcarron Hospice’s vision is to promote and provide specialist palliative care services and expert end of life care for the people of Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth in North Lanarkshire. 
The charity’s aim is to sustain, develop and deliver a full range of quality services – in-patient, day hospice, community, Hospice@Home, bereavement, pastoral care, lymphoedema, research and education. The focus of all our activity will be the patient, families and carers. 

The Role 

The Marketing & Communications intern will support the hospice in its clinical work and will assist in ensuring that all internal and external marketing & communications opportunities and tasks are developed, coordinated, delivered and maximised positively promoting the organisation's vision, values, people and service developments to provide a strong platform for income generation.

As a Marketing and Communications Intern you will be involved with the following tasks and responsibilities:  
• Assist in all marketing, advertising and promotional activities within the organisation collaborating with appropriate staff members to achieve fundraising, marketing and communications objectives and the hospices overall strategic aims.
• Assist through proactive marketing and communications in heightening the profile of the hospice promoting a better understanding of the existing and developing services provided.  
• Assist in ensuring uniform corporate branding is used across the organisation.  
• Assist in ensuring the organisation's website is kept current and is a useful source of information for both public and healthcare professionals.  
• Make optimum use of all new and social media technologies to proactively promote the organisation eg social media posts, blogging and writing newspaper articles.  
• Provide reports on the impact of communication methods.  
• The intern will be expected to work flexible hours and carry out any other duties as required by the charity.  

The postholder is expected to understand the importance and value of organisational policies and procedures thus they will: 
• Carry out duties with full regard to the organisation's Equalities and Diversities policies;  
• Act as a responsible individual in relation to Health and Safety and be aware of the responsibilities to maintain a safe health and safety environment;  
• Ensure appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained in all marketing and communication activities;  
• Ensure that the disclosure and use of confidential information is both lawful and ethical and to recognise own responsibility for compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a background in marketing/communications, journalism, advertising or related field. You should be IT literate with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. The graduate should be comfortable using graphics/photo editing software and confident when using a range of social media platforms. 
Candidates must be self-motivated with great attention to detail and have the ability and a passion for writing copy of a high standard. Highly organised, you will possess a strong attention to detail, be able to effectively time manage and prioritise when working on multiple projects at once. The enthusiastic postholder should present a professional and mature but flexible attitude. You should be a strong team player, a quick learner and possess great interpersonal skills.  
Previous experience of marketing communications and/or working within a charity would be beneficial.
