Novosound is the first spin-out company to emerge from the University of the West of Scotland, closing its seed investment of £1.5 million. Novosound were the winners of the 2017 Converge Challenge, and have developed and patented a ground-breaking technique to mass-manufacture novel, printed, ultrasound sensors to the industrial inspection and medical imaging markets.
Commonly known for its use in maternity wards and other hospital departments, ultrasound imaging, is also the go-to tool in industrial settings for safe non-destructive testing (NDT). In the oil and gas industry, for example, novosound’s new, low-cost, “fit-and-forget” sensors will be fixed along a pipeline to detect potential cracks and faults before they become critical; a problem that has been well-publicised recently for operators in the sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for a STEM graduate who enjoys a hands-on laboratory/workshop environment and is passionate about their work. Novosound aims to push the limits of ultrasonic imaging and measurement by utilising Thin Film Technologies in current and untapped markets.
Reporting to the Lead Physicist, your key activities include:
• Assembly of ultrasound single element probes and multi-element arrays in accordance to Novosound protocols
• Testing of Novosound probes and sensors with laboratory equipment
• Computer modelling of ultrasound probes
• Document observed results, analyse data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations during product development activities
Novosound is looking for a hands-on and enthusiastic BSc (Honours) graduate in Physics, Engineering, Sensors or a related discipline to join their team. The ideal person will be a problem-solver at heart with a genuine interest in helping other team members.

Qualifications, experience and skills essential for this role:
• Experience of computer programming (Python, C, Java, Matlab, Labview etc.)
• Skilled in the laboratory or workshop environment
• Enthusiasm for the Startup Environment (i.e. we’re not a BlueChip company, yet)
• Highly proficient in computer usage (Office packages)
• Able to follow instruction
• Must have strong attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal and external partners
• Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive materials/issues
• Able to work overtime when required
The following is beneficial but not essential:
• ISO9001 / 13485 / FDA / CE Marking regulatory experience beneficial
