Web Designer, Social Media and Online Shop Intern with Welcome Home Store

Focused on making design and craft accessible to all, Welcome Home provides an evolving space for new designers and members of the public to create, learn and educate with a programme of workshops and events as well as the retail platform.

Location: Glasgow
£7.65 per hour. 24 hours per week for 10 weeks.
Ideal start date is 7 October.

Welcome Home is a place to shop for inspiration as well as great products that are handmade, well designed, useful, beautiful or all of the above. Based at Welcome Home’s premises within the CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts) in Glasgow’s city centre, your tasks will include:

  • designing a new website
  • assisting with project management from idea conception to artwork delivery
  • creating both online and printed marketing materials, such as promotions, social media, email marketing campaigns and product stories
  • updating the website
  • updating the online shop on a regular basis
  • managing orders, stock and delivery
  • generating content for social media
  • visual merchandising, display and shop design

Requirements

This post is ideally suited to a graduate with a background in Graphic Design, Digital Design or a related field. Previous experience of web and print design is required. You should be a proficient user of Photoshop and Illustrator. A working knowledge of both HTML / CSS and Dreamweaver (or related programme) is required for this role. You will have knowledge of, or the ability to quickly research and learn, how to use 3rd part email senders such as Mail Chimp.

You should have a strong interest in design, art and craft, alongside a strong commercial awareness. Candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be confident and comfortable with people and customer interaction. The successful intern will be both organised and flexible. A creative, enthusiastic and hard-working individual would thrive in this post.
